Medical Women Association, in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ and other female professional groups today marked Menstrual Hygiene Day with adolescent girls in selected schools across Makurdi.
The sensitization featured health education sessions, interactions, and the distribution of sanitary pads to support girls in managing their menstrual health with confidence and improved knowledge.



At Aliyu Mohammad Jama’a Memorial Arabic College, UBE, and Holy Ghost UBEC all in Wadata as well as the UBE College, Ichwa, in Makurdi, President, Medical Women Association of Nigeria, MWAN, Benue State Chapter, Dr. Doofan Ayatse-Agishi, urged the girls to maintain proper hygiene during their menstrual periods, use clean sanitary products, and seek accurate information from trusted sources when necessary.
Chairperson of NAWOJ, Benue State Chapter, Comrade Elizabeth Achagh, emphasized that menstrual hygiene is vital to the health and educational advancement of adolescent girls and called for safe spaces and adequate water facilities in schools to promote proper hygiene practices.
Comrade Achagh also stressed the need to protect the rights of girls to education, health, and dignity, noting that no girl should miss school because of menstruation.
Some students, Zainab Taiye, Ishaka Mustafa, and Doose Tyolumun, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the knowledge gained would help them manage their menstrual health better and educate their peers.
