Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has officially flagged off the sales of fertiliser for the 2025 wet farming season in a bid to boost agricultural productivity and support local farmers across the state.
Speaking at the launch event, Governor Yahaya revealed that the state government procured 10,000 tonnes of NPK 20:10:10 fertiliser at ₦44,000 per bag but will be selling it to farmers at a subsidised rate of ₦27,000 per bag.
He noted that the subsidy aims to ease the financial burden on farmers and ensure access to critical farm inputs.
Emphasising the importance of timely access to fertiliser in enhancing crop yields and food security, the governor directed the State Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry to work with security agencies to monitor distribution.
Governor Yahaya also called on farmers and herders to avoid conflicts by respecting grazing routes and farmland boundaries.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Barnabas Malle, praised the governor for establishing a 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone equipped with key facilities such as an ultra-modern abattoir, international livestock and grains markets, and an inland dry port.
He urged local government chairmen and stakeholders to support the fertiliser distribution process.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Absalom Akwaras Lansibol, commended the state government’s efforts in providing affordable and timely inputs to farmers.
He described the initiative as aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Agricultural Transformation Initiative.
