Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez have invited scores of VIPs from the worlds of film, finance, and show business to Venice this week for three days of opulent wedding celebrations.
Dubbed described as the “Wedding of the Century,” the event is shrouded in secrecy, with few confirmed details about the guest list or the full cost.
However, Luca Zaia, President of the Veneto regional government, revealed on Tuesday that the festivities are expected to cost between €40 million and €48 million (approximately $46.5 million to $55.6 million).
According to Italian media outlets Corriere della Sera and ANSA, Bezos will also make significant charitable contributions as part of the occasion, including a €1 million donation to Corila, an academic consortium dedicated to studying the Venice lagoon ecosystem.
While the exact date and location of the ceremony remain confidential, the main celebration is reportedly scheduled for Saturday at the Arsenale (Arsenal) a historic, walled complex in eastern Venice once used for shipbuilding during the Republic of Venice’s maritime dominance in the 15th century.
