The Environment and Climate change Ameriolation Initiatives, ECCAI has promised to assist more schools in Benue State to establish Climate Justice Clubs towards finding solutions to climate change and Justice
Executive Director of ECCAI, Mrs Victoria Esa made the promise today at an event put together in collaboration with Education As a Vaccine, EVA to commemorate this year’s international youth day
Speaking on the theme, “The Role of Young People in Driving Climate Justice in Benue State”, Mrs. Essa described climate change as a threat to the survival of man which can be seen in floods, drought and conflicts as a result of scarce resources.


The Executive Director of ECCAI noted that apart from helping the schools to create climate justice clubs where you people are taught to design solutions to mitigate the impact of climate change, the organisation has worked with women in the rural communities by assisting them to cushion the effect of climate change.
She commended young people, particularly those under the tutelage of ECCAI for advocating promoting tree planting, recycling of waste, renewable energy and enjoined the Government to be more proactive in saving lives through protection of the environment.
Proprietress of GRAMS Schools, Makurdi, Dr. Grace Oyigeya who spoke on behalf of other invited schools commended ECCAI for championing the course of ameriolating the effect of climate change in Benue and assured of keying into all the programmes and activities of ECCAI
In his address to highlight the activities of ECCAI in the past years, Climate Justice Club Master, Unique Secondary School, Makurdi, Mr. Philip Iorkase thanked the organization for helping the students to understand the importance of planting trees and proper waste disposal.
Mr. Iorkase maintained that to address climate change, the Government should integrate climate education in the curricula, develop gender sensitive climate policies and shift the energy source to solar and wind to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Janet Ogba and Cynthia Odoh from Government Girls College, Makurdi as well as Esther Ako and Godstime Ushie from Government Model School who showcased practical solutions to reducing the impact of climate change appealed to the Government to support ECCAI to achieve more.
Representative of CSOs, Mrs Blessing Azaagee, that of SDGs, Thaddeus Alu, BIDC Reuben Mayange as well as Ministry of Water Resources, Victoria Ekere and Women Affairs, Alfred Abo all commended ECCAI for the good work and pledged their support.
