The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is mourning the loss of its transformative leader, His Royal Highness Professor Olugbemiro Akerejola, The Ubuoro Ajagajigi of Ogori Land, who passed away on the night of August 25, 2025.
In a tribute released by the ITF, the Director General, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun described the late Monarch as a visionary leader, scholar, and reformer whose legacy continues to inspire institutional growth and national development.
According to the statement, Prof. Akerejola led the ITF as Director-General and Chief Executive from 2000 to 2006, spearheading a transformative era of institutional reform and innovation.
His tenure was notable for strategically repositioning the Fund as a driving force behind Nigeria’s industrial and human capital development.

He also made significant strides in improving staff welfare, fostering a culture of professionalism, motivation, and commitment among the workforce.
Beyond the ITF, Prof. Akerejola was a distinguished academic, respected public servant, and a revered traditional ruler.
Following his retirement from public service, he was honoured with a traditional title as the Ubuoro Ajagajigi of Ogori Land in Kogi State—recognition of his dedication to community development and cultural preservation.
Dr. Ogun expressed heartfelt condolences to the Akerejola family, the Ogori community, and all those who benefited from his leadership and mentorship.
