The Nasarawa State Government has directed security agencies to strengthen strategies for addressing emerging security threats to lives and property in Lafia, the state capital, and other parts of the state.
Governor Sule, who gave the charge during an expanded emergency security meeting held in Lafia, said the government would continue to support security operatives with the necessary resources but urged them to step up collaboration and intelligence sharing to safeguard residents.
The meeting, attended by heads of security agencies and government officials, reviewed recent incidents and discussed proactive measures to improve safety across the state.
The expanded emergency security meeting followed the gruesome killing of a renowned businessman, Alhaji Sani Muhammad, in Lafia by unknown assailants; the kidnapping of individuals in the state capital; and emerging security threats in Kuduku, Doma, and Yelwa Idiya of the Keana and Doma local government areas that led to the loss of several lives and properties, among other things.
Addressing the meeting, Governor Abdullahi Sule explained that the security threats bedevilling parts of the state are coming at a time that his administration is focused more on providing infrastructural development to the people of the state and, as such, would not fold its arms and allow miscreants bringing setbacks to the existing peace in the state to hold sway.
Commending the proactive efforts of security agencies on security matters in parts of the state, Governor Sule, however, expressed concern with the rising cases of kidnapping, especially in Lafia, the state capital.
He, therefore, called for stringent measures by security formations in the state to nip in the bud the current security threats in all parts of the state.
The State Governor further noted that the state government is introducing skills acquisition and other methods aimed at engaging youths in meaningful ventures to become self-reliant as part of efforts to reduce youths’ restiveness, particularly in the Toto local government area.

Speaking in an interview shortly after the security meeting, State Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Shettima Jauro, explained that the council deliberated extensively on the need for greater collaboration between security agencies and stakeholders to tackle security challenges in parts of Nasarawa State.
CP Jauro Mohammed added that significant arrests have been made in respect to the killing of the renowned businessman, Alhaji Sani Mohammed, in Lafia, and the culprit would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
