In a renewed effort towards promoting professionalism and Protecting the integrity of journalism, the Nasarawa state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ has sought the support of the State Police Command in its fight against quackery.
State Council Chairman of the Union, Comrade Salihu Mohammed-Alkali made the appeal when he led a delegation of the Anti-Quackery Enforcement Committee of the Union on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa state Command, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed in Lafia
Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali stated that the committee has been mandated to synergize with the police to identify and expose fake Journalists who often impersonate or misuse NUJ or Press stickers and identity cards to perpetrate criminal acts.
Chairman, NUJ Anti-Quackery kEnforcement Committee, Comrade Chris Nyamtu bemoaned the level of quackery in journalism saying it has not only bastardized the profession but also constitutes a security threat.
The State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed who was elated by the visit assured that, the relationship between the Nigeria Police and journalists under his watch would remain undiluted to build a crime free society.
Members of the NUJ Anti-Quackery Enforcement Committee are drawn from Radio Nigeria, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Nasarawa Broadcasting Service, NBS, State Information and Breeze FM Chapels of the Union.
