The Kogi State Ministry of Water Resources says it has organized a one-day training on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) to strengthen the capacity of its staff and raise awareness on effective strategies for tackling malnutrition.
Speaking at the event in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Yahaya Farouk, described the training as crucial in enhancing service delivery and addressing malnutrition challenges across the state.
He emphasized the need to sustain such training across other departments of the ministry to further entrench their impact.
The Director of Nutrition in the Ministry, Mr. Peter Arome, gave an overview of the programme, highlighting the IMAM approach and its relevance to current public health nutrition challenges in the state.
In a goodwill message, Mallam Abubakar Musa, Director of Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Budget and Coordinator of Food System Transformation Pathways, commended the ministry for its timely initiative.
He stressed the importance of the training theme and called for collective commitment to implementing the strategies discussed for the greater good of society.
Earlier, the Lead facilitator, Mrs. Funmilayo Alapo of the Nutrition Department, Kogi State Ministry of Health, who anchored the technical session, focused on acute malnutrition and demonstrated the practical use of Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) in screening cases.
Participants lauded the training, describing it as timely, impactful, and highly beneficial to their professional development.
