Participants at a zonal face-to-face National Campus Debate have emphasized that embracing core values remains the surest path to unity in Nigeria’s diverse and multi-cultural society.
The event, held in Lokoja, was organized by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to promote civic engagement and nurture intellectual and patriotic virtues among youths.
Students from six tertiary institutions across the zone who took part in the contest stressed that despite differences in tribe and language, Nigerians must prioritize shared values to strengthen national cohesion and advance the project Nigeria.
Delivering a message at the occasion, the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, was represented by the Zonal Director, Doctor. Priscilla Gandola said the debate provided a platform for young people to voice their ideas and take ownership of values that would shape their future.
He urged the students to shun all forms of misconduct, particularly those that promote violence, indecency, or cultism.
At the end of the competition, Gift Adejoh and Innocent Oguche, both of the Federal University, Lokoja, emerged winners of the debate.
