Greater Tomorrow Football Club of Lafia has defeated the Defending Champions, Thunder Football Club of Agyragu Two-One in the opening match of the Nineth Edition of Mailafiya Peace and Unity Football Tournament twenty twenty five.
The encounter was played at the Government Secondary School football Field in Daddare, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Speaking at this year’s opening encounter, Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Yakubu Kwanta, congratulated Yakubu Mailafiya Foundation for sustaining the yearly competition, describing him as a Man of vision, focus, and passion for the youth, assuring him that Governor Abdullahi Sule will continue to invest heavily on youth and Sport Development.
Mr. Kwanta instructed the Chairman of Nasarawa United, Solomon Babanja, along with the Technical Crew, to organize a talent hunt for selecting quality players to be recruited into the main team and feeder team to enhance performance.
On their parts, the Sangari Shabu, Mamud Umar Bwala, Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, David Moyi, and Former SUBEB Chairman, Mohamed DanAzumi commended him for his passion for football development at the grassroots level, which has greatly united people of the state from different ethnic, religious, and political affiliations.
Organiser of the competition, Yakubu Mailafiya, emphasized that this year’s tournament is to bring youth together in unity through harnessing their talent, calling for more private sector and spirited individuals who shy away from their corporate social responsibility to invest in sporting activities, especially football, for the Youth to showcase their talent to the world.
Our Correspondent, Nehemiah Gwamna, reports that Nasarawa United Technical Adviser, Mangut Mbwas, was at the venue of the Match to scout for recruits. At the same time, thirty-two teams will participate in the competition for the coveted trophy.
