The Federal, States and Local Government have been urged to increase allocation to the health sector for improved service delivery and capacity building.
Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association NMA, Kwara State branch, Professor Abdulrahman Afolabi, gave the charge at a press conference to mark the 2025 Physicians’ Week.
Represented by the Vice Chairman, Dr. Ayinde Musa, Professor Afolabi emphasized that effective healthcare reform begins with sound policy formulation, resource allocation, infrastructural development, training, and quality service delivery for improved patient outcomes.
He noted that Nigeria’s healthcare system is being limited by inadequate health financing, policy inconsistencies, and brain-drain of medical professionals.
The NMA Kwara State Chairman also called for the involvement of healthcare practitioners, particularly those on the frontline of service delivery, in policy-making.
He stressed the need for patients to have equitable access to quality care, and for healthcare providers to prioritize giving the right care, at the right time, by the right team, using the right resources.
Professor Afolabi enjoined members of the association to uphold professional standards and ethics.
The theme of this year’s Physicians Week is “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency from Policy to Patient.”
