Ninety-Seven suspected cases of Lassa-Fever have been reported in Nasarawa State with four people confirmed death.
The State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer, Emmanuel Daniel disclosed this during Lassa Fever Awareness and Prevention for Health workers and media personnel in Lafia.
Presenting a situation report of the Lassa Fever outbreak in Nasarawa State between January and October, this year, the State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer, Doctor Emmanuel Daniel noted that 97 suspected cases were reported, 6 confirmed with 4 deaths.
He explained that people can get the Lassa fever by having contact with infected rats or their saliva, urine or droppings.
Representative of the World Health Organization, WHO in the State, Chigozie Ihezue recounted how the State Government lost two of its medical doctors to Lassa Fever stressing the need for Community health workers and media personnel to champion awareness campaign on the prevention of the viral disease.
Chigozie Ihezue advised people to desist from consuming contaminated food, drying food items outside, drinking of raw garri, among others.
In a remark, the State Director, Public Health, Doctor Peter Attah represented by the State Epidemiology, Doctor Grace Amos challenged the media personnel and community health workers to leverage their platforms to disseminate right information on how to prevent against the Lassa Fever.
