The HumAngle Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation, has commenced the training for ninety community journalists and Human Rights Advocates fellows across North Central,North West and North East including Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau , Kaduna and Borno States.
Human Security and Policy Analyst of the Foundation, Mr Abdulsamad Ahmed Yusuf, stated this at a workshop for fourty three Community Journalists and Human Rights Advocates on Strengthening Community Journalism and Human Rights Advocacy in North Central Nigeria, SCOJA, in Jos, Plateau State.
The training for journalists and Human Rights Advocates is part of the HumAngle Foundation Strengthening Community Journalism and Human Rights Advocacy, SCOJA, Project supported by the Kingdom of Netherlands Embassy in Nigeria, aims at combating disinformation and improve public awareness by equipping Journalists and Advocates in Northern Nigeria with ethical reporting skills and safety practices.
The Human Security and Policy Analyst of the Foundation, Mr Abdulsamad Ahmed Yusuf described the HumAngle Foundation as a media-based organization committed to examining the impact and aftermath of conflict in Nigeria, emphasized that the Foundation provides access to accurate information in regions often plagued by disinformation.
According to him, the Foundation is dedicated to training and retraining hundreds of community journalists across Northern Nigeria in conflict and crisis reporting, with the goal of better informing the public in accordance with media ethics.
Sub-Editor and Head of Media Standards at the Foundation, Mr John-Stone Kpilaaka stressed that professionalism is vital in media reporting, urged journalists and advocates to present their stories in a balanced and ethical manner and prioritize both digital and physical safety while carrying out their duties.
Some of the participants, Gloria Abutu and Abdullahi Sidi, described the training as impactful and enlightening, noting that it significantly enhanced their journalistic skills in reportage.
The training has as it highlights virtual sessions on Accountability Reporting for Community Journalists, Research and Sourcing, Solutions Reporting and case studies, climate and conflict reporting, Psychological Resilience and Human Rights law,press freedom and accessories to legal support.
