Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo has officially taken over as Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command of the Nigerian Army, following recent appointments and redeployments within the service. He succeeds Major General Hillary Nzan, who has retired.
In a statement issued by Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, Lieutenant Colonel Ikechukwu Stephen Eze, the new Commander urged troops to ensure that all actions are professionally justifiable and foster relationships free from sentiment and rancour.
He highlighted unity, teamwork, and comradeship as the core values of the 4 Special Forces, stressing that officers and soldiers must remain committed to their operational responsibilities in line with the Nigerian Army’s mandate.
Major General Awolo pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor, describing the progress made under Nzan’s leadership as impactful. He emphasized the need for relentless efforts in securing all parts of the country, given the command’s strategic role as first responders to operational demands.
He further noted that collective effort among troops would not only improve field performance but also help actualize the Chief of Army Staff’s vision, which prioritizes welfare, training, and equipment.
With this appointment, Major General Awolo becomes the sixth Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command. Prior to this role, he served as the officer in charge of Campaign Planning at the Army Headquarters, Department of Army Operations.
The 4 Special Forces Command is tasked with conducting unconventional warfare operations across Nigeria, either independently or in support of regular forces. Its highly mobile brigades and special operations battalions are deployed in various locations nationwide.
