Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has presented a proposed budget of ₦517.54 billion for the 2026 fiscal year before the State House of Assembly.
The appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Strategic Consolidation” aims to accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen human capital and widen economic opportunities across the state.
Presenting the budget to the State House of Assembly, Governor Sule said the document reflects his administration’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and the sustained delivery of major development projects.
The proposed budget allocates ₦304.75 billion (58.88%) to capital expenditure and ₦212.79 billion (41.12%) to recurrent spending, reinforcing the government’s focus on infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Key sectoral allocations include:
Infrastructure: ₦157.8bn (30.49%)
Governance & Security: ₦142.96bn (27.62%)
Education: ₦92.91bn (17.95%)
Health: ₦37.19bn (7.19%)
Agriculture & Water Resources: ₦31.85bn (6.15%)
According to the Governor, consolidating ongoing road construction, urban renewal projects, healthcare upgrades, and agricultural expansion are the priorities of the proposed budget.
Reviewing the 2025 fiscal year performance, he noted that the state generated ₦235.05 billion as of October 2025—representing 61% of projected revenue—while total expenditure stood at ₦226.36 billion.
Governor Sule attributed this to improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), increased federal allocations, and robust capital investment, which he described as “the highest capital performance since the creation of the state.”
He also highlighted major achievements, including the completion of approximately 639 km of roads, ongoing flyover and underpass construction in Keffi and Akwanga, and the near-completion of modern markets across several local government areas.
The governor also reported progress in education, including the recruitment of teachers and accreditation improvements in tertiary institutions.
In the health sector, he pointed to upgrades in specialist and general hospitals, continuous recruitment of health workers, and the expansion of the state health insurance scheme.
On agriculture, Governor Sule revealed that 3,300 hectares have been cultivated under a 10,000-hectare agricultural development project, alongside the procurement of new tractors and farm inputs to strengthen food security.
He further confirmed the continuation of the ₦10,000 monthly cash transfer scheme for vulnerable households.
To enhance governance and service delivery, the governor announced the establishment of several strategic institutions, including the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the State Fire and Rescue Service Agency, the Education Trust Fund, and the Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Doma.
Governor Sule urged lawmakers to give the budget swift consideration and passage to ensure timely implementation of programmes aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving the welfare of citizens.
The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Rt Honourable Danladi Jatau while responding, commended the Governor for showing fiscal discipline in implementing the state budget in the outgoing year.
He assured the Governor that the Assembly will continue to support the executive arm in the implementation of key reforms that would translate to quality life for the people.
