The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, has inaugurated the appeal panels for the fourth and final quarter session of the High Court of Justice.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the judiciary headquarters in Lokoja, Justice Majebi urged panel members to uphold impartiality and carry out their duties without fear or favour.
He explained that the panels are mandated to hear appeals from lower courts and would sit across the six judicial divisions of the state from december first to fifth.
The Chief Judge also cautioned lawyers appearing before the panels to avoid unnecessary and frivolous applications that could delay the dispensation of justice, stressing the need for diligence and professionalism.
In a remark, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lokoja Branch, Muhammed Inuwa, commended the Chief Judge for creating avenues to review cases from lower courts, noting that the exercise would help correct possible miscarriages of justice.
A total of 129 cases have been slated for determination by the six panels.
Lokoja and Ankpa divisions each have two panels, with 54 and 36 cases respectively, while Idah’s two panels will handle 16 cases.
Okene, Anyigba, and Kabba divisions have one panel each, with a significant number of cases distributed among them.
