Nigerians have been reassured that there is no cause for alarm over the recently enacted Tax Acts 2025, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about six months ago.
Speaking in Lokoja at a stakeholder’s forum on understanding the new tax laws, guest speaker, Dele Suru emphasized that the legislation was crafted to modernize Nigeria’s tax system and introduce a more equitable and citizen-friendly structure.

According to him, the Acts scheduled to take full effect on January 1, 2026 would deliver long-term national benefits and ensure fairness in tax administration.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, said the forum was organized to deepen public understanding of the provisions, implications, and advantages of the updated tax laws.

He stressed that proper awareness was essential for smooth compliance once implementation begins.
Enehe also urged citizens to obtain their Tax Identification Number (TIN), warning that beginning January 2026, bank transactions would no longer be permitted without it.
The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Internal Revenue, Doctor. Nazir Ichanyi, applauded KGIRS for taking proactive steps to educate the public ahead of the rollout.
Participants described the engagement as timely and vital for strengthening tax compliance, improving transparency, and boosting revenue generation for national development.
