The Plateau State Government, through the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, PCN, has sealed the Pharmaceutical Department of Zenith Life Hospital, Jos, following the alleged administration of expired intravenous fluid to a patient.
Speaking to newsmen, the Director-General of the Plateau State Drug and Medical Commodity Agency, Mr. Kim Bot, described the incident as unacceptable and contrary to the core values the agency upholds.
He explained that investigations revealed that the hospital’s pharmacy was not being operated by a licensed pharmacist and was not in compliance with standard pharmaceutical practice.

Mr. Kim further stated that enforcement teams would continue statewide monitoring, warning individuals and facilities operating without proper authorization to desist, as the Plateau State Government will not tolerate actions that endanger the lives of its citizens.

While expressing deep concern over the incident, the Director-General confirmed that the affected patient is currently stable but remains under close observation.
On his part, the Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Plateau State Chapter, Mr. Lohdip Domjul, said the discovery raises serious health concerns, noting that patients cannot be guaranteed optimal care in such environments.
He emphasized that strict penalties would be enforced, beginning with the sealing of non-compliant premises.

Also speaking, the State Officer of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, Plateau State Office, Mr. Joshua Makilik, stated that the pharmacy will remain sealed until further notice.
