The Benue State Government has awarded contracts for the reconstruction of thirty-eight point six kilometers of roads within Makurdi metropolis for fifty-six billion naira.
Director Civil Engineering at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Engineer Tivfa Wombo, made this known in his office while addressing newsmen.
Engineer Wombo named the roads to be reconstructed to include Wurukum to Savannah Round About through Railway Gate to Tito and down to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development.
Others are from Government House to Federal Medical Centre, back to Aper Stadium to Police Headquarters Roundabout, through School of Nursing to Railway market and to Tito, Central Bank through Police Headquarters to NYSC Headquarters to the Underpass, to Radio Benue and Civil Service Commission to P Kura filling station.
Also to be reconstructed are David Mark Bye Pass cutting across modern market road through Ankpa Quarters to the Cathedral as well as the road from Savannah Round About to Saint Theresa Church through Vandeikya street to high level market.
Engineer Wombo maintained that contractors have already been mobilized to commence the reconstruction, which he said would be completed with road dividers and walkways on both sides of the roads, while fifty-two bus stops and an automated traffic control system would be provided.
The Director of Civil Engineering stated that due to the construction of a box culvert close to AYM Shafa filling station in Wurukum, which would commence soon, the road would be completely blocked and appealed to motorists to use alternative routes to their destinations.
On the delay in completion of ongoing rehabilitation of some roads in Makurdi metropolis, Engineer Wombo appealed for the understanding of residents, assuring that the contractors have been directed to complete work on them before the end of March this year.
