Four Local Government Areas in Benue State have been confirmed to be hit by Lassa fever with three deaths recorded.
There are also eight other confirmed cases out of fifty six suspected infections bringing the case fatality rate to thirty seven point five percent.
The affected Local Government areas include Makurdi, Buruku, Logo and Ushongo.
Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche who made this known in Makurdi explained that Makurdi Local Government has seven out of the eight confirmed cases.
He said the State Ministry of Health through the Public Health Emergency Operation Centre has activated the Isolation Centre at Federal Medical Centre Makurdi where the patients are being kept and undergoing treatment.
Dr. Ogwuche expressed worry that three nurses and one community health worker were affected in the line of duty and extended his condolences to workers for the death of a Benue Born Doctor who died of Lassa fever in the course of duty in Jos, Plateau State.
The health Commissioner informed that Information Assistants are available through the Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer in the twenty three Local Government for inquiry when confused about the disease.
