The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Nigerian Cancer Society, NCS, will conduct free cancer screening for one thousand people in Jos, Plateau State.
Chairman of the NCS, Plateau State Chapter, Dr Maurice Nandul, made this known during the North Central Zone World Cancer Day Mega Rally in Jos,
Dr Nandul, said commemorating the 2026 World Cancer Day with the theme, “United by Unique,” the screening exercise will commence from the 18th to 20th of February at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH.

Dr Nandul explained that the rally drew members of the NCS from different states across the North-Central zone, united by a shared goal of advancing this year’s theme, which recognises that every cancer journey is different and calls for people-centred, compassionate and responsive care.
He further stated that the free screening would target both women and men from across the country, encouraging early detection as a critical step in reducing cancer-related deaths.
On his part, Chairman of the NCS, Nasarawa State Branch, Dr Achara Peter, emphasised that cancer could be prevented and controlled through increased public awareness, community education and expanded access to screening services.
Also speaking, Chairman of the NCS, Benue State Branch, Dr Samuel Otene, described cancer as a major public health challenge globally, but noted that it is largely preventable and treatable when detected early.
In a goodwill message, President of the NCS, Abidemi Omonisi, represented by the NCS National Secretary General, Professor Danladi Bojude, emphasised the need for adequate cancer management and care, and announced that the Society is mobilising one hundred billion naira to strengthen the fight against cancer in Nigeria.
The rally commenced at Zarmaganda Junction and terminated at the Secretariat Junction Roundabout in Jos.
