An Anti Trafficking and Violence Against Persons Vanguard has been inaugurated in the State by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP.
The project is organized by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, ICMPD in partnership with NAPTIP and supported by the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the Building and environment free of human Trafficking and Violence Against Persons in Nigeria Project.
Performing the ceremony at Government Model College Makurdi, NAPTIP Director General Binta Bello stated that the objective of the vanguard was to raise consistent, age-appropriate awareness among students, teachers, and parents about trafficking and violence against persons, recognizing the signs and understanding the risks.
She expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the support to the project leading to the inauguration as well as the School improvement project, saying their commitment demonstrates how effective international partnerships can strengthen national and local responses .
Deputy Director General, Ministry of Asylum and Migration, Victor Cramer, emphasised that human trafficking is a gross violation of human rights and urged all stakeholders to fight against the crime, while the Benue State NAPTIP Zonal Commander, Dr. Gloria Bai said with the inauguration of the Vanguard club in schools, the high rate of Trafficking of children will be tackled.
Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr Margaret Adamu represented by the Director Education Support Services, Seember Saamo and that of Justice and public order, Yanigen Ornguga, assured of State Government commitment to expand the anti trafficking vanguard to other schools.
