Nollywood actress,Laide Bakare has responded to the backlash trailing her recent remarks about taking her teenage daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub.
In a chat with content creator, Mr Lil Gaga, Bakare revealed that she took her 17-year-old daughter to a club for the first time and allowed her to have a taste of nightlife and alcohol, a gesture she described as part of preparing her for adulthood.
The comment quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions online.
While some social media users supported her parenting approach, many criticised the actress for what they described as poor judgment and for allegedly promoting underage drinking.
Reacting to the controversy, Bakare took to her Instagram page to clarify her statement, saying her words had been misinterpreted.
She shared a video from her daughter’s birthday after-party, explaining that she only meant her daughter accompanied her to a club for the first time, not that she introduced her to alcohol.
Bakare wrote:
“Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday after party. How is that bad naw?”
The actress emphasised that her intention was to make her daughter’s birthday celebration memorable, not to promote irresponsible behaviour, urging critics to stop twisting her words.
