The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent boat accident in Ibaji Local Government Area that claimed several lives.
In a condolence message signed by its Chairperson, Edoka Stella Laruba, the association commiserated with the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Mrs Comfort Ojoma Uchola Egwaba, and the people of Ibaji over the tragic incident.
NAWOJ described the accident as a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life, noting that the thoughts and prayers of women journalists are with the families who lost their loved ones.
The association prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for divine strength for the bereaved families to bear the painful loss.
It also called on the Kogi State Government and other relevant authorities to provide immediate support and relief materials to the affected families.
Furthermore, NAWOJ urged the government to put in place proactive measures that would ensure the safety of water transportation and prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy in the future.
The association conveyed its heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the unfortunate incident.
