As Nasarawa State commences the integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccination campaign, the World Health Organization, WHO has appealed to all stakeholders in the State to join hands in ensuring that every eligible child receives the disease preventable vaccine to build a healthy society.
The Zonal Coordinator, North Central Zone of WHO, Doctor Zeenat Asma’l made the appeal at the inauguration of the 2025 integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccination campaign in Akwanga.
According to Doctor Zeenat Asma’l, a total of 269 suspected Measles cases were reported across all the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State this year of which forty-three were confirmed, with outbreaks reported in 6 LGAs of Obi, Kokona, Doma, Karu, Lafia, Nasarawa and Awe.
She commended the State government for strengthening primary healthcare and expanding immunization services across the State and appealed to traditional and religious leaders, parents and care givers to collaborate with the state government in ensuring the success of the campaign.
The State governor, Abdullahi Sule who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Doctor Emmanuel Akabe while inaugurating the measles rubella vaccination campaign restated the State government’s commitment towards improving health care services in the state.
In their goodwill messages the representatives of UNICEF and National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Doctor Lukman Ahmed and Mrs Beatrice Osim all commended the State government for timely release of its counterparts funding for the measles rubella vaccination campaign to ensure that every child is vaccinated against the dreaded virus.
The State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Gaza Gwamna represented by the Permanent Secretary, Doctor John Damina and the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Doctor Usman Iskilu Saleh expressed appreciation to all the development partners for their support to the State towards building a healthy society.
