The Nasarawa State Government has approved the release of ₦5 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities to retirees across the state.
The State Accountant General, Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, disclosed this during a press briefing in Lafia, the state capital.
Dr. Mohammed explained that out of the total amount, ₦1.5 billion has already been released to the State Pensions Bureau for the immediate payment of gratuities to state government workers who retired in 2012.
He further stated that the government has concluded arrangements to release over ₦3 billion to settle the backlog of gratuities and other entitlements owed to local government retirees.
According to him, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration remains committed to improving the welfare and dignity of senior citizens, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions to the development of the state and the nation at large.
Dr. Mohammed assured that the disbursement process would commence immediately, urging beneficiaries to exercise patience and cooperate with relevant government agencies to ensure a smooth and transparent payment process.
He also revealed that the Nasarawa State Government recently received an Award of Excellence for Exceptional Tax Compliance from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The Accountant General attributed the recognition to Governor Sule’s unwavering commitment to accountability, transparency, and due diligence in governance.
