A suspected notorious Five-man kidnapping gang terrorizing communities in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, and its environs, has been busted by the Nasarawa state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC..
Briefing newsmen at the NSCDC state headquarters in lafia, Commandant Brah Samson Umoru, said the gang was intercepted by a combined team of the state Crack Squad and the Commandant General’s special intelligence Squad during a kidnapping attack at Shabu community on the outskirts of lafia on Wednesday at about seven PM.
Brah Samson alleged that the same gang was responsible for several kidnapping incidents within Lafia metropolis, Shabu, Sabon Pegi, Azuba, Bukan Ari, and Kurikyo communities in the past three months.
The Commandant explained that during the exchange of fire, two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralized and two arrested, while one escaped, and efforts are on to track him down.
According to Brah Samson, the Nasarawa state NSCDC command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has been given the matching order by Governor Abdullahi Sule to comb all nooks and crannies of the state to fish out perpetrators of heinous crimes to maintain the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
“” Upon my assumption of duty as the Commandant of NSCDC in Nasarawa state on 18th September 2025, the state had been experiencing pockets of security breaches especially in the area of kidnappings and other vices…acting on the directive of my Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, I immediately identified the loopholes and form the Commandant Crack Squad and Agro Rangers who have been routinely patrolling and monitoring Lafia metropolis and its environs. ” Commandant Brah stressed.
Brah Samson Umoru, however, called on residents of the state to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements of individuals or groups around their vicinity to the nearest security agency for prompt action..
Items recovered from the suspected kidnappers include ..One AK-47 rifle, one magazine with 40 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 5 phones, 2 knives, Charms, and Cash..
The Commandant stated that the suspects would be taken to court immediately.
