The importance of empowering local actors to promote peace, human rights, democracy, and religious tolerance in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Gombe states has been highlighted.
According to stakeholders at a meeting in Jos, strengthening local actors would enable them effectively promote positive transformation and nurture peaceful Coexistence.
The project aims to bolster democracy, religious freedom, human rights, peacebuilding, and socio-economic development by enhancing the capacities of local stakeholders, including community groups, CSOs, religious leaders, and government institutions, with a special emphasis on women and youth in 12 targeted communities.

The Country coordinator of the project, Chiara Casarella emphasised that the objective is to empower local actors in peace building, human rights and religious tolerance.
In her submission, Coordinator, TEKAN peace Desk, Mrs. Helen Haggai said the meeting has impacted both religious and community leaders positively towards tolerance and harmonious coexistence.
A participant Ahmed Salihu of CCAPAD, said his group has enhanced communities in Nasarawa, Plateau and Gombe States through the training of Youths in skills acquisitions and trauma healing.
A traditional ruler, the Ujah Anaguta, Pozho Magaji urged the various stakeholders to work towards implementing the outcomes and recommendations of the event.
Representatives from the JNI and Girls Guild shared their experiences detailing the transformative effects of the project and the valuable lessons they’ve gained, which have equipped them to make a difference in their own communities.
The event drew members from selected communities, civil society organizations CSOs, community-based groups, religious and traditional institutions, government agencies, and security service providers.
