A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU on improving Security initiatives for Accountable service delivery is to be signed between the Benue State Government and Kukah Centre.
Special Adviser to the Governor on external security, Retired Colonel Alexander Anshungu gave the indication in Makurdi at a stakeholders meeting aimed at validating and assessing the Law establishing Benue State Civil Protection Guards to enhance effective performance.
Retired Colonel Anshungu stated that the Government was willing to support any efforts that would help address insecurity in the state and thanked Kukah Centre for the good initiatives which he noted would strengthen activities of the personnel in complementing the conventional security Agencies in the State.
Project Manager the Kukah Centre, Mr. Terseer Bamber explained that the NGO is being supported by Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria, SPRiNG programme to train two hundred personnel of the Protection Guards for more efficiency.
Mr. Bamber noted that apart from Benue state Kukah Centre was carrying out a similar programme in Kaduna, Sokoto, Katsina and Plateau to ensure that state established local security outfits work in line with the law.
Tor Lobi His Royal Highness Chief Moses Anageende stressed the need for traditional leaders and Youths to be involved in policy formation for effective management of the security outfit while the state commandant Retired captain Ayuma Ajoibi said the assessment of the Law was timely as it would further strengthen the Agency especially in the areas of discipline and recruitment amongst other things.
While providing an assessment of the Law during the human rights movement, Justin Gbagir called for budgetary allocation and specific salary for the personnel, which he observed were not provided in the law.
