The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed trending social media reports alleging a possible bandit attack in Kogi East, describing them as false and unverifiable.
In a statement issued in Lokoja by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the command said the reports lack credibility and do not represent any known security threat.
He assured residents that adequate measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property across the state.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has ordered the deployment of tactical teams including the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Squad and Intelligence Units to strategic locations.
It said additional security assets have also been mobilised to respond to any unforeseen security challenges in critical areas.
The Police Command appealed to the public to remain calm and to verify information through official channels before circulating it, noting that false reports can trigger unnecessary panic.
It urged residents to collaborate with security agencies and promptly report any suspicious activity, emphasising that “security is a shared responsibility.”
The statement added that for emergencies, members of the public are encouraged to call the command’s emergency number: 07038329084.
