The Director General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Hajia Binta Bello has tasked key actors in the education sector in the State to ensure effective implementation of the National Curriculum on Trafficking in Persons.
Hajia Bello who stated this at a four-day workshop for one hundred and fifty subject teachers in fifty schools on TIP content in the revised National Curriculum organized by International Centre for Migration Policy Development ICMPD in collaboration with,NAPTIP and Ministry of Education held in Makurdi.
Represented by State’s Director, Research and programme Development, Josiah Emerole, the NAPTIP Director General emphasised urged participants to extend the knowledge acquired to students to curb the menace of human trafficking in line with the Schools Anti-trafficking Education and Advocacy Project.
Project Manager ICMPD, Rhoda Diajohnson, represented by the Project Officer, Favour Simon, explained that the workshop was to equip specialized teachers in basic and senior secondary schools to begin teaching the infused curriculum of human trafficking in subjects such as Government, Civil Education and National Values.
The Attorney General and Commissioner, for Justice and Public Order, Professor Yangien Ornguga, acknowledged Human Trafficking as one of the threats undermining peace and development in the state and assured of Government’s commitment to overcome the problem while Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Margaret Adamu, represented by Director Science and Technology Mrs Dooshima Awai, promised sustained partnership to achieve success.
State Zonal Commander NAPTIP, Dr Gloria Bai said Benue was topping the Chat of human trafficking in Nigeria and solicited cooperation of Teachers and other stakeholders in implementing the project.
Some of the participants, Mary Udeh, Terkav Tsehemba and Joyce Atule thanked the organizers for the knowledge gained and promised to implement the new curriculum in their schools.#
