An outbreak of Lassa fever has killed two persons in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Ministry of Health headquarters.

Dr Bamlong explained that five cases were initially suspected, out of which two were laboratory confirmed, one tested negative, while two patients died before diagnosis could be made.
He further stated that following confirmation of the cases, 69 contacts associated with the patients have been line-listed and are currently under close monitoring.
The Commissioner noted that, in response to the development, the Plateau State Ministry of Health has officially activated the Incident Management System, IMS to coordinate a comprehensive and multi-sectoral response to the Lassa fever outbreak.
He added that Mr. Maren Damala Tanimu has been appointed as the Incident Manager to oversee the response efforts.
The commissioner urged residents of Qua’an Pan Local Government, surrounding areas and the state at large to remain calm, but vigilant, practice good hygiene, and promptly report any symptoms such as fever or weakness to the nearest health facility.
Dr. BAMLONG reaffirmed government’s commitment to the protection of health of all Plateau residents.
