Seven inmates at the Lafia Medium Security Custodial Centre have been matriculated to study various courses at the National Open University of Nigeria, Lafia Study Centre.

The matriculation ceremony took place today at the custodial centre in Lafia.
At the event vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Oduma Oduma challenged the matriculating inmates to remain resolute in their academic pursuit noting that their dreams are valid regardless of their present situation.
Represented by the Lafia study Centre Director, Mrs Rhoda Ezhim the VC Noted that the institution which remains foremost for open and distant learning is committed to imparting quality education to students devoid of class and status.

Administering the oath of matriculation, the Registrar of the National Open University of Nigeria, Ajayi Oladipo represented by Assistant Registrar Lafia study centre, Haruna Abubakar Saeed tasked them to be agents of change.

The Comptroller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Nasarawa State Command, Anthony Sanda, emphasized the commitment of the service to ensure the reformation of inmates before they regain freedom, to enable them contribute meaningfully to society.

There were goodwill messages by representatives of security agencies, community leaders government officials and human rights activist who said lives are reshaped at the correctional facility and appreciated the Open University for giving the inmates an opportunity to better their situation.
