Sustainable human rights protection can only be achieved through coordinated and inclusive action of stakeholders.
The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, DR. TONY OJUKWU stated this at the Plateau State Consultative Meeting on National Action Plan NAP, for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria 2004 to 2028, held in Jos.
Nigeria’s National Action Plan NAP, for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rghts 2024- 2028 represents the countries second Nation Human Rights framework, developed pursuant to the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, adopted at the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna Australia.
Dr. OJUKWU explained that the National Action Plan serves as a guiding document and reflects the collective commitment of government institutions and non-state actors to address existing gaps, respond to emerging challenges, and build a more inclusive, rights-respecting society.
Represented by the Coordinator, National Human Rights in Plateau State KYENPIA MAFUYAI , Dr OJuKWU urged stakeholders to engage constructively, share insights, experiences, and propose actionable recommendations that would help the commission achieve the objectives of NAP 2024 – 2028.

The Chief Investigation Officer National Human Rights Commission in the State, Mr. TADDY CHOLLOM while speaking on the Role of Civil Society Organizations in the Implementation of NAP, maintained that there was need for Government to partner CSOs especially those that have grassroots reach to have a holistic view on human rights.

Mr. CHOLLOM while highlighting monitoring and accountability as some of the most significant roles ascribed to CSOs in the document , charged them to be active evaluators of state compliance.
Some stakeholders at the meeting assured of their commitment to study the document further and support result-driven processes for the benefit of citizens.
Participants were drawn from Media Organisations , CSOs, Security agencies, Traditional and religious institutions as well as MDAs across the State.

The NAP 2024- 2028 comes after the first one 2009-2013 , a decade long consultative process led by the National Human Rights Commission.
