The Kogi State House of Assembly has appealed to the Federal Government to provide additional security intervention and rehabilitation support for communities affected by bandit attacks in Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
The appeal followed a motion presented on the floor of the House by the member representing Dekina/Biraidu State Constituency, Ochidi Usman Shehu.
Presenting the motion, Shehu described the recurring attacks on Oganenigu communities over the years as disturbing, noting that the violence had led to loss of lives, displacement of residents and destruction of property.
The lawmaker commended Governor Usman Ododo for his prompt response and decisive actions in tackling criminal activities in the affected communities.
He also appealed for the establishment of a permanent Army base in Oganenigu Ward to strengthen security and encourage displaced residents to return to their ancestral homes.
Contributing to the debate, the Speaker of the Assembly, Aliyu Umar Yusuf, commended Governor Ododo for his commitment and proactive efforts toward addressing insecurity across different parts of the state.
The Speaker noted that restoring peace in affected communities remained a priority of government and assured that the Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property.
