The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Kogi State, Alhaji. Shehu Wahab, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies to ensure credible and peaceful elections in the state.
Alhaji Wahab stated this during visits to both the Commander of 12 Brigade, Chari Maigumeri Barracks, and the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Lugard, Banda, in Lokoja, as part of ongoing engagements with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES.
The REC commended the Nigerian Army for its prompt response to requests from the electoral body, describing the existing relationship between INEC and security agencies in the state as cordial and productive.
He explained that the visits were aimed at deepening cooperation and enhancing operational synergy ahead of future electoral activities in the state.
At the Naval Base, Alhaji Wahab appreciated the Navy for honouring the engagement despite the short notice, assuring that the gesture would not be taken for granted.
He also acknowledged the critical role of the Navy in supporting electoral operations, especially in the riverine local government areas of the state where security and logistics remain vital during elections.
Responding, the Naval Commander, Commodore Adetayo Olushola Ojo attributed the strong collaboration among security agencies in Kogi State to continuous professional training and inter-agency cooperation.
He pledged the continued support of the Nigerian Navy to INEC in ensuring peaceful, secure and credible electoral processes in the state.
