The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator OluRemi Tinubu, has empowered more than 1,000 women petty traders in Karon Majigi and the Physically Challenged Colony in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of efforts to support small businesses and promote economic inclusion.
Represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, at the distribution ceremony, the First Lady expressed appreciation to the communities for their continued support of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Beneficiaries received various empowerment items, including 39 sewing machines, 13 grinding machines, 35 water pumping machines, 45 hair dryers, 16 power chillers and five tricycle trucks. In addition, 1,000 petty traders received grants of ₦50,000 each to support and expand their businesses.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the initiative as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises the welfare, inclusion and empowerment of all Nigerians.
She noted that empowering persons with disabilities should be viewed as a strategic investment in national development rather than an act of charity, stressing that it promotes human capacity, self reliance and sustainable development.
Also speaking, the APC Deputy National Women Leader, Zainab Ibrahim, urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the support provided, noting that the initiative was aimed at equipping individuals with the tools and resources needed to improve their livelihoods and reduce poverty within their households.
