The Federal Government says steps is being taken to ease the economic hardship facing Nigerians.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, made this known during a sensitisation campaign on President Bola Tinubu’s Mid-Term Report held in Awka, Anambra State.
Represented by the Head of the Federal Ministry of Information in Anambra, Mrs Joy Chukwurah, the minister said the government was aware of the economic challenges and had introduced several policies and programmes to improve living conditions.
He stated that through the Renewed Hope Initiative, many lives had been positively impacted.
According to him, about 900,000 people have benefited from the Presidential Loan and Grant Scheme in the last two years, while 300,000 undergraduates have accessed the Federal Government’s Students Loan Scheme.
A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Edith Onyeka, acknowledged the administration’s reforms but noted that economic hardship had made it difficult for many Nigerians to appreciate the progress.
She urged the government to prioritise job creation, strengthen security, and ensure reforms translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
Similarly, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State chapter, Emeka Odogwu, commended the Federal Government’s efforts but appealed for more attention to the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the health sector, and a greater federal presence in Anambra State.
Other speakers at the event also called on the government to fast-track the completion of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and consider establishing a connecting rail line in the region.
