Nasarawa State Government has bid farewell to Team Nasarawa contingents who will be participating in the 9th Edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba, the Delta State Capital.
Speaking on behalf of the Nasarawa State Government, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Yakubu Kwanta, expressed hope that the young athletes will do the State proud at the Spirit Fiesta.
He urged them to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship by being good ambassadors of the State during and after the games.
Mr Kwanta emphasized that there will be a reward for those who have done exceptionally well at the National Youth Games.
The athletes expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State Government for approving funds for the State’s participation in the multi-sports event.
They equally thanked the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, Doctor Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan, and other Staff of the Ministry for their roles in ensuring the participation of Team Nasarawa at the multi-sports meet, saying they are determined to excel in the competition and bring glory to the Governor and State as a whole.
The Coaches also disclosed that they are motivated to do the State proud.
Team Nasarawa travelled with a total contingent of Two Hundred and Seventy-Eight 278 comprising One Hundred and Sixty-Seven(167) athletes, Twenty-two (22) Sports Secretaries, thirty-eight (38) accompanying referees, and Fifty-one(51) accompanying officials.
Nasarawa State will be participating in twenty-two sporting activities, namely, Athletics, Ayo, Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Dart, Football(Boys), Golf, Hockey(Boys’ and Girls’), Judo, Karate, Kokawa, and Kung Fu Wushu.
Others are Scrabble, Shooting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.
The 9th National Youth Games will feature Thirty-seven 37 sports, with over six thousand athletes and coaches from the Thirty-six States of Nigeria and FCT, Abuja, participating, beginning from 26th August, 2025, to 6th September, 2025.
Team Delta won the last edition held in Asaba in 2024.
