More than one hundred and ten athletes from Kogi State have departed Lokoja for the 2025 National Youth Games taking place in Asaba, Delta State.
Speaking at the Confluence Stadium before their departure, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe, urged the contingent to compete with determination and return home with medals.
He noted that Governor Usman Ododo had made the welfare and safety of the athletes a top priority.
Anyebe revealed that Kogi’s under-15 athletes would be participating in about 20 sporting events, stressing that they must represent the state as worthy ambassadors.
He further noted that the present administration has placed sports development at the forefront of its agenda and challenged the athletes to surpass last year’s performance.
“The administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has prioritized sports development. You should therefore go to Asaba determined to win gold medals and consolidate on his achievements,” he charged.
Also addressing the athletes, the Director of the Kogi State Sports Council, Abel Igah, encouraged them to put in their best, noting that their performance at the Games could determine the future of their sporting careers.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Samson Joshua expressed gratitude to the state government for its support and assured that the athletes would give their best to win medals and make Kogi proud.
