Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, says the implementation of the 2024 capital budget has reached 80 percent.
Edun disclosed this in Abuja after a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, chaired by Abubakar Bichi.
The National Assembly had previously extended the implementation of the capital components of the 2024 budget, first to June 2025 and later to December 2025 to allow for the completion of key infrastructure projects.
Edun explained that with the deadline still in place, work on the budget remains ongoing, stressing that priority is being given to grassroots projects such as roads, irrigation, and other infrastructure.
Overall, it’s around 80 percent, and as you know, the budget for 2024 was extended by the National Assembly till December, so it is still running.
It is still a work in progress,” he said.
Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, who also attended the meeting, said lawmakers commended the federal government’s performance and expressed support for its reform initiatives, including recent tax system overhauls.
Representatives of the Accountant-General’s office and the Debt Management Office (DMO) were also in attendance.
