The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has released the Notice of Election for the conduct of Chairmanship and Councillorship elections across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Chairman of KOSIEC, Mr. Mamman Nda Eri, who announced the election notice during a stakeholder’s meeting in Lokoja said the elections were scheduled to hold on Saturday,17th October,2026.

Mr. Eri explained that the notice was issued in line with Section 28 sub section one of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the relevant provisions of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 20
He said the issuance of the Notice of Election marks the formal commencement of the 2026 Local Government Electoral process in the state and demonstrates the Commission’s readiness to conduct the exercise.
According to him, the publication of the notice fulfills the statutory requirement that mandates electoral bodies to issue such notices not later than 360 days before the date fixed for the elections.
The Chairman further disclosed that a comprehensive timetable and schedule of activities including dates for party primaries, submission of candidate’s lists, publication of nominated candidates, commencement and end of campaigns, and other pre-election activities would be released by the Commission on Friday, 24th October 2025.
He emphasized that only political parties duly registered and recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be eligible to sponsor candidates for the elections, in accordance with the provisions of the law.
He urged all political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the electoral timetable, laws, and KOSIEC’s guidelines to ensure free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections across the state.
Eri also announced that the Commission’s headquarters would serve as the official venue for the submission of nomination papers for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions.
