The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has stressed the need for collaboration between both genders to effectively fight stereotype and create opportunities towards development
and progress.
The First Lady made this known at the National Institute for Policy and Stretegic Studies NIPSS Kuru, Plateau state during the inauguration of the Senator Oluremi Gender Centre for Excellence at the Institute.
The idea for the Gender Centre of Excellence was conceived and funded by members of the Senior Executive Course 45, 2023 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.
The centre, named in Honor of the First Lady, was created to promote gender equity, empowerment, and security through evidence-based research, capacity building, and strategic partnerships that mainstream gender perspectives in public policy and governance.
The First Lady, who described women empowerment as key to societal progress noted that the vision of the centre was inline with federal government priority to harness the full potential of all citizens irrespective of gender, ethnicity or religion.
She urged potential beneficiaries of the centre to ensure they apply the knowledge they will gain and create positive impact in the society.
Plateau state Governor Caleb Mutfwang who said the First Lady, has impacted lives positively through her office, explained that his administration has involved women in governance and they are contributing immensely to progress of the state.
Board Chairman of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS, former Senate President Ken Nnamani who urged NIPSS to remain committed in developing strategies that will help address the country’s challenges advocated the running of short courses by the institute in every geo political zone.
In an address of welcome, the Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS,professor Ayo Omotayo noted that the legacies of senator Oluremi Tinubu in nation building is an inspiration to Nigerian women and gave an assurance that the institute would continue to serve as a catalysts for inclusive governance where both and men would be empowered to drive the meaningful change in Nigeria and Africa.
