The Nasarawa State Government has welcomed the state’s inclusion among those set to benefit from the $500 million World Bank Presidential Food System Programme targeting the Guinea Savannah states.
Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this while playing host to delegates for the Agro ecological zonal workshop at the Government house, lafia, the state capital.
Motivated by the shared beliefs of delegates at the Agro Ecological Zonal Workshop regarding Nasarawa State’s place on the agricultural map, Governor Abdullahi Sule recognized their efforts in advancing the agricultural value chain nationwide.
The Governor, who explained that Nasarawa state is key when it comes to Agriculture, noted that with the two basic components of derisking private investments and modernisation of farm production, stakeholders are expected to make valid inputs concerning the review and validation of the programme, focusing on strategic areas to be covered
Manager, Impact Assessment of the Presidential Food System Coordinating Unit, Eniola Akindele, said the Sustainable Agriculture for Value Chain Environment for Growth, AGRO, is a World Bank programme that dwells on zonal consultation on agriculture across the guinea savannah zones to receive the input and perception of stakeholders on the components of the programme.
Explaining the focus of the World Bank initiative, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hajiya Munira Abdullahi, said the programme aims to identify particular crops in the agro-ecological zones of Nigeria.
The agro-ecological zonal workshop aims to give key stakeholders a voice in issues that affect them, as the Presidential Food System Coordinating Unit starts planning the Savannah Zone’s agro-sustainable program.
