Coordinator Civil Resource Development and Documentation Centre CIRDDOC, Mr Paschal Anojie, has urged MDAs, CSOs, Women, Media, Security, Youth and Community Leaders to sustain collaboration to check the increasing wave of Sexual Gender Based Violence in Benue State.
Mr. Anojie gave the charge in Makurdi during a two day workshop organised by CIRDDOC in partnership with Justice and Rights Initiative and Ford Foundation with participants drawn from Makurdi,Guma, Logo and Agatu Local Government Areas.
He emphasised that the workshop targets Government and non-Government stakeholders who are critical to the fight against the SGBV in the State and expressed the importance for the establishment of Town Unions such as Men, Women and Youths wing to ensure inclusivity.
A Facilitator, Dr Mnena Jootar, while educating the trainees on the concept Conflict related SGBV and prevention, said sexual abuse, rape, physical assult, trafficking, female gender mutilation, force marriage and prostitution, sexual harassment among others were gross violation of human rights of citizens and called for decisive actions.
Director of Women Affairs, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Magdalene Andoor, reassured the commitment of the State Government in addressing all forms of Sexual Gender Based Violence adding that no offender will be spared.
Participants, Jessica Gondo, Aminu Alaka, Rosemary Agogo and Joseph Kwaghdega acknowledged that the training has exposed them to practical knowledge about SGBV and promised to use the skills to advocate for the survivors in their respective communities.#
