The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has convicted and sentenced Prophet Ajiboye Olayinka to life imprisonment for unlawful sexual intercourse with three minor congregants.
The offences occurred inside the Mission House of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry in Agah, Ganmo area of Ilorin, Kwara State, where the defendant was the General Overseer.
The court also sentenced Prophet Olayinka to 14 years imprisonment for carrying out illegal abortions related to several pregnancies involving the victims.
The defendant was charged on eight counts bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion and unlawful possession of firearms, contrary to Sections 97, 235 and 283 of the Penal Code, Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004, and Section 31(2) of the Kwara State Child Rights Law, 2006.
In his judgement, Justice Gegele held that the prosecution successfully proved the offences of unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, rape and illegal abortions, but failed to establish the offence of bigamy.
The court subsequently discharged the defendant of the bigamy charge.
The court described the defendant as “a Pedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be deprecated by all and sundry in the society”.
Justice Gegele further ordered that the pump-action gun recovered from the defendant be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
