Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has reaffirmed his administration’s policy commitment to food security and climate resilience with the commissioning of agricultural and environmental management equipment under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative.
Speaking at the event held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, Governor Ododo described the rollout as a strategic policy step aimed at tackling food scarcity, flooding, land degradation, and other adverse effects of climate change across the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Mr Joseph Oluwasegun, the governor said the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader agenda of positioning agriculture as a key driver of food security, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.
He noted that in 2024, the state government invested over ₦7 billion in tractors, seedlings, fertilizers, and other farm implements distributed to more than 10,000 mechanised farmers, boosting employment opportunities and strengthening economic stability.

The State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Ms Ladi Jatto, commended the governor for prioritising environmental sustainability and acknowledged the support of development partners in advancing the state’s climate adaptation goals.
She said the equipment would be strategically deployed to restore degraded lands, improve waste management systems, empower farmers, and promote a cleaner and healthier environment in line with the state’s long-term environmental policy framework.
The newly commissioned assets include one swamp buggy, 23 tractors, one low-bed vehicle, 20 tipping tricycles, 30 galvanized wheel waste bins, 400 plastic waste bins, 200 rakes, and 150 shovels to enhance community-based waste management and land restoration efforts.
